Engineering Manager

We are looking to appoint an Engineering Manager for the development of our Bowdun and Ayre offshore wind farms.

What you'll do

  • Take a leading senior role in the Project Team, leading on all engineering aspects and technical interfaces associated with the development of the offshore wind farms
  • As these projects are at an early stage of development, the successful candidate will shape the setup of the processes, tools, and co-ordination of necessary resources (both internal and external)
  • Identify the need for specialist internal and external technical support, managing all the technical aspects of procurement of such support, including, for example, drafting work scopes and undertaking coordinating technical assessment of proposals
  • Be the key interface for the projects within the Engineering and Construction teams
  • Be responsible for site data collection, including metocean, geophysical, geotechnical and wind resource campaigns to support project design
  • Establish a project design basis and manage its validation by ensuring comprehensive and robust data collection and use, resulting in reduced uncertainty of site conditions, minimising project design risk and leading to more cost-effective design and installation solutions and lower likelihood of claims
  • Collaborate effectively with other project team members, especially the Consenting leads, Supply Chain Manager and Communications Team
  • Ensure appropriate engineering governance is put in place and managed, including:
    • Development of a technical risk register
    • Implementation of design decision and change control processes.
    • Effective interface management
    • Value engineering
  • Follow and report on new innovations, standards, methodologies, service providers and best practice, with a view to optimisation of the project (in areas such as risk profile, Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) or ability to successfully meet project milestones and goals)
  • Manage budget and schedule effectively for the engineering scope activities 
  • As the project is at an early stage, the successful candidate will be involved in wider project development activities, e.g., regulatory matters, stakeholders, industry working groups, communications activity, etc.

What we're looking for

You will have:

  • A degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, providing a strong technical foundation in understanding interfaces in large EPC(I) projects
  • 10+ years of experience in a relevant or a similar field of work (e.g. complex EPC(I) Construction Projects, large infrastructure projects), preferably with direct experience in development of offshore wind projects
  • Knowledge of CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations, including a demonstrable understanding of health, safety and environmental best practice
  • Demonstrable experience leading, motivating and managing teams of engineers and external consultants.
  • Ability to deep-dive into complex technical challenges and be able to explain technical challenges to a non-technical audience
  • Excellent coordination and co-operation skills; a team player who is willing and able to work with others to solve problems and share knowledge
  • Ability to flag problems when they arise and ask for help when needed
  • Ability to work proactively and independently
  • Culturally awareness with a high level of emotional intelligence to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills in English, strong organisational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to manage ambiguity and shape processes and systems

Balance of Plant Manager

We are looking to appoint a Balance of Plant Manager for the Ayre and Bowdun offshore wind projects. You will be accountable for the design of: the fixed bottom foundations on the Bowdun Offshore Wind Farm; the floating foundations on the Ayre Offshore Wind Farm; two offshore substation foundations; the support structure for the top-side on both offshore wind farms.

The design responsibility covers all stages of the project from Concept Selection, through Pre-FEED, FEED, Detailed Design, Fabrication, Transportation, Installation, Commissioning and Operation. Throughout the delivery of the project, the BOPM will ensure that the design is undertaken to according to our requirements, with a focus on minimising project life-cycle costs. This includes the appointment and management of external design consultants, design certification authority, any specialised design houses, as well as managing the interface across all external contractors required for Fabrication, Transportation, Installation and Commissioning.

What you'll do

  • Lead the overall engineering activities for the wind farm foundations
  • Deliver integrated engineering solutions and facilitate the key technical interfaces between project development and external contractors
  • Provide technical input to the procurement teams for the management of major contracts and agreements required by the project
  • Be accountable for the BOP scope of the engineering programme, including the budget and ensuring that specifications are in line with overall project objectives
  • Support the recruitment and development of the engineering team in accordance with project requirements
  • Collaborate effectively with other project team members, especially the Consenting leads, Supply Chain Manager and Communications Team

What we're looking for

You will have:

  • A degree (Bachelor or Master of Science) in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • Professionally qualification to CEng level
  • 5+ years of proven experience in wind, oil and gas, construction, engineering or similar (preferably in offshore wind or transmissions systems)
  • Proven experience in engineering, procurement and construction activities related to offshore foundations and power substations
  • Proficiency in supervising engineering teams in an international context
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and in particular, Health and Safety issues offshore including CDM (2015).
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Strong written communications and presentation skills
  • Ability to work across cultures and in different geographies
  • Commercial acumen and experience negotiating contracts
  • People management skills, particularly in view of coordinating multi-disciplinary teams

Regulatory Manager (Part-Time)

We are recruiting for a Regulatory Manager for our offshore wind projects. Please note that this is a part-time role. 

What you'll do

  • Act as an expert advisor on offshore wind sector policy, regulation and economic issues
  • Lead in the identification, tracking and advising on existing/new regulatory developments, including assessing impact, communicating, and advising on these changes
  • Identify and communicate to the project team existing and future regulatory risks to the project and recommending mitigating measures.
  • Support the team in development activities to secure leases, conventional and alternative routes to market, grid entry points and consents/licences for offshore wind projects
  • Participate in industry working groups to influence direction and remain informed of industry priorities and objectives
  • Work with colleagues and stakeholders to identify policy priorities and new opportunities

Stakeholder Engagement Manager (Part-Time)

We are looking for a Stakeholder Engagement Manager to join our team and support the engagement with local communities in Orkney, Highlands and Aberdeenshire as well as the public affairs and wider B2B communications activity.

We are looking for candidates who have experience in the following areas:

  • Stakeholder management, public affairs outreach or public relations related to environmental, community, third-sector or advocacy work
  • Strong writing, presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Market insights and analysis
  • Experience working with technical themes is desirable

You will be located in Aberdeenshire or Caithness with the ability to travel for events and bi-monthly team meetings in Edinburgh. A degree in a relevant discipline is desirable but not essential for this role as we will consider candidates without degrees who have strong portfolios and experience.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, you’ll play an important role in:

  • Identifying key stakeholders, maintaining the CRM and undertaking stakeholder intelligence and mapping exercises

Contracts Manager  

The Contracts Manager will be responsible for the commercial and contractual elements throughout the development lifecycle of our two offshore wind farm projects. You will cover the contractual negotiations of new and renewed contracts with a range of providers. The role will support the project team in developing agreements with third parties, ensuing that they are in the best interests of the projects. The Contracts Manager will also lead on managing the insurance elements of these contracts. The ideal candidiate will have proven experience in contract management, ideally having worked on offshore infrastructure projects in the UK.

What you'll do

  • Together with the relevant workstreams, you will negotiate, complete and manage contracts on behalf of TWP
  • Support tendering activity to help identify the most commercially attractive options 
  • Develop generic contract templates, where not currently available, for certain types of contracts and scopes of work
  • Ensure that the commercial and legal position across all contracts is consistent, meeting business requirements and risk profile
  • Ensure that contract terms are coordinated across workstreams

What we're looking for

Substation Engineer

The Senior Substation Engineer will be the Technical Lead for all offshore and onshore substation components -- from initial concept and design through to construction. This is a full-time role based in Edinburgh.

What you'll do

  • Lead on development of all offshore and onshore substations and electrical systems design
  • Be responsible for the HV/LV electrical design and layout design and delivery of HV substations (up to 400kV) onshore & offshore
  • Support offshore topside design and installation with HV/LV primary plant expertise
  • Support onshore civil design with HV primary plant knowledge
  • Manage equipment specifications and design review for power requirements of ancillary equipment for the offshore windfarm to grid connection
  • Check electrical load calculations for plant
  • Specify and manage design of reactive compensation and harmonic filters
  • Liaise with power system engineers and review power system analysis reports
  • Inform EIA/Consent applications with the necessary inputs related to onshore and offshore HV/MV primary plant for the onshore and offshore substations
  • Write electrical HV primary plant and ancillary services engineering consultancy scopes of work
  • Write the electrical HV primary plant and ancillary services engineering design + installation technical requirements for issue to EPCI contractors and support procurement processes
  • Have a good understanding of IEC/CIGRE/ISO/IEEE standards and required Pre-Qualification/Type Testing requirements for HV primary plant where required
  • Support the Electrical Engineering Manager with monthly design reviews, engineering risk management, budgeting and programme
  • Support project technical engineering meetings with other engineering stakeholders both internally within TWP and externally
  • Apply your experience of CDM to HV Primary plant and ancillary services design
  • Collaborate effectively with other project team members, especially the Consenting leads, Supply Chain Manager and Communications Team

What we're looking for

You will have:

  • A Bachelor or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • HV/MV experience of offshore wind and onshore project development and construction
  • Understanding of IEC/CIGRE onshore and offshore standards and ENA standards in relation to HV primary plant and ancillary services design
  • Demonstrable experience of application of CDM to projects during development and construction
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and be able to communicate complex cable engineering matters to others with less knowledge of the subject matter
  • Detail-oriented and systematic approach to design
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, PowerPoint and Word; familiarity with design programs and database systems are advantages
  • Exceptional written communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel on a regular basis, especially within the UK
  • Experience with software tools for load flow and dynamic studies: e.g. Digsilent/PSCad
