Yesterday, TWP’s Project Director Ian Taylor and Supply Chain Manager Gavin MacKay met with Scottish Energy Minister Gillian Martin to discuss the current climate for offshore wind development  and our own Ayre and Bowdun projects.

The meeting was held at DEME Group’s Head Office in Antwerp. DEME Concessions is one of the investors in the TWP joint venture together with global renewables players Qair and Aspiravi. The Scottish delegation was in Belgium for European Hydrogen Week, where the Minister has been promoting Scotland’s capabilities in renewables.

With two ScotWind projects, involving a mix of floating and fixed foundation turbines, TWP and its Tier 1 contractor DEME Offshore, are focussed on maximising the role of local Scottish businesses in the development and then future operational phases of the offshore wind farms. The partnership is working to ensure routes through to DEME’s global projects too.

Ian Taylor commented: “We were keen to highlight the work we are doing with DEME Offshore to open up supply chain opportunity to local businesses and ports. TWP’s founder companies bring global experience in developing a variety of renewables projects, while DEME is well-known in the industry in Scotland as a vessel contractor to some of Scotland’s biggest offshore wind projects.”

“The joint venture is the first time that any of the partners have entered the UK market as a developer. With this comes the ability to be much freer in our choices and a greater agility in tailoring how we work to the supply chain realities on the ground here. We’re also bringing the experience of achieving very strong local content in overseas projects, such as Qair’s Eolmed floating offshore wind project, which is currently in construction off the French coast.”

On Tuesday 5th December, TWP is hosting its next regional supply chain event at MacKays Hotel in Wick, Caithness, in collaboration with the Caithness Chamber of Commerce and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Companies can register for the business breakfast and 1-2-1s with TWP representatives.
